Lockdown Skincare Favourites

My current skincare line-up is a mix of my faithful tried-and-tested go to’s and some new additions that I know are going to be staples. I tend to keep a pared down apothecary of potions and lotions with something to target each of my skin concerns, which I rotate between depending on the state of my face that day. A skincare capsule wardrobe if you will. Read on to find out what I’ve been loving these last few months.

where my skin is at right now...

I am cursed with oily and blemish prone skin – my face looks like an oil spill by midday. Keeping it shine-free is a daily struggle! My main skin concerns are hyperpigmentation, acne and the dreaded “maskne”. Luckily my skin isn’t sensitive so generally I don’t have to worry about irritation or reacting to new products.

the ole' faithful...

MOISTURISING SERUM

I started using Bioderma Hydrabio Serum last winter under my usual moisturiser, for extra moisture during the colder months, and I fell in love with it. Featuring the humectant power couple of glycerin and hyaluronic acid, with a hint of niacinamide, this serum keeps my skin quenched and soft. It has a light serum texture that absorbs quickly and layers well with other products.ย

BLEMISH TREATMENT

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+ has been a staple in my routine for almost a decade. This OG product cleared most of my teenage acne within a week and faded the scars within months.ย  I could dedicate an entire post to Effaclar Duo+, as it truly is a hero product for me. Chock-full of active ingredients, it’s a real powerhouse. Extensive mask wearing has brought on a wave of maskne so I’m relying on my ole’ faithful to restore myย  complexion.

FACE MIST

Another La Roche-Posay product, Serozinc is a simple face mist with just three ingredients – water, zinc sulphate and sodium chloride. Sodium chloride is astringent and the zinc reduces sebum production. I spray this into a reusable cotton pad and swipe it on my face when I need to control shine. It helps my moisturisers work better as it dampens the skin and allows more moisture to be drawn in.

FACIAL OIL

I was sceptical to try Pai’s Rosehip Bioregenerate at first, due to my already oily skin, but this vibrant oil is so nice to use at night as a final occlusive layer. I find that this helps balance my skin, keeps it soft and heals chapped winter skin. As the temperature drops, I can’t wait to add this back into my evening routine. (Also, how cute is thisย  custom bottle! I won it in an Instagram promotion a while ago)

new loves...

VITAMIN C

The La Roche-Posay C10 serum has transformed my skin in a short amount of time; my skin tone is more even and smoother. My skin just feels more glowy – not in a shiny, greasy way but in a lit from within way. I think this has really helped me manage my hyperpigmentation, which normally becomes more pronounced over summer. To top it all off, it leaves my skin feeling so so soft.

EYE CREAM

The CeraVe Eye Repair Cream is a light cream, that keeps my under-eyes hydrated and smooths out fine lines. It’s a great basic everyday product. As a young adult, I don’t need anything heavy duty or expensive, and this fits the bill.ย

ACID EXFOLIATOR

REN’s Steady Ready Glow Daily AHA tonic kept popping up on the ‘gram with rave reviews, and when I saw Melissa’s Wardrobe promoting it, I knew I had to try it. I don’t think I’ve been using it long enough to see real results but my skin hasn’t reacted badly to it and it feels more gentle than my Pixi toner. I’m definitely loving the unique pump dispenser on the bottle, it makes it really easy to use.ย

that's all folks!

And that’s my round-up of my current skincare favourites! Obviously I’m no skincare expert, but hopefully I’ve given you some inspiration. What’s your go-to skincare product at the moment? Let me know in the comments!

I have actually often been wanting to find info on a skin routine that would work for me for quite a while, but was never sure where to start. And by the sounds of, this might fit since I also have oily skin! This was super informative, so thank you for sharing!

I am looking to get the La Roche-Posay C10 serum, the serozinc face mist, and possibly the eye cream. Regarding the eye cream, I was wondering though – how light is it, how quickly does it get absorbed into the skin? I really dislike feeling cream sit around on my face, and I’ve had a couple in the past and only one of them did I actually use since the other was too heavy.

Glad you found it helpful Emi! The eye cream is really really light, it glides on almost like water and sinks in quickly…it feels more like a serum than a cream.
